What increases imaan?

The below is a forwarded message I received, from a dars of Hubabah N, wife of Sayyidil Habib 'Umar, written by another sister. Safekeeping it here because it is literally the answer to a question that crossed my mind just minutes before receiving the message.

Hubabah N’s dars

Allah grants people a choice whether to believe or disbelieve. Therefore no one can blame God for their disbelief because they were given the choice.

He who treads the path of good will lead them to Jannah and he who treads the path of wretchedness will lead them to Jahannam.

Allah ﷻ has prepared for the wrongdoers a fire surrounded by walls. Allah ﷻ trials them with thirst, hot black water with a wretched smell will be brought to them similar to molten brass. Due to the intense heat of the water, when it is brought close to their faces, it scalds them. What a wretched drink this is and what an evil resting place Hell is.

The Qur’an consists of both commandments and warnings.

One’s faith increases through an abundance of prayer and acts of worship and through leaving desires of the nafs. He who leaves a desire which is halaal for the sake of God, Allah grants him imaan in his heart instantly. Likewise, he who lowers their gaze from haraam, Allah grants him imaan, the sweetness of which he finds in his heart. The greater jihad is the jihad of the nafs. The desires of the nafs and disobedient acts causes a person’s heart to harden leading to them being far from God. The furthest people from God are those with a hard heart.

Story: A man complained to person of Allah that so and so took away his nobility. The man said I’m going to ask you a question and answer sincerely: “Do you wake up for qiyaam ul layl?” He replied no. So he said you have no nobility to take because as the rasul ﷺ said, a Mu’min’s nobility is in qiyaam ul layl.

He who leaves a majlis in which there was no remembrance of God or salutations upon the prophet ﷺ, it is as if a the corpse of a donkey was in the majlis with him.

In Ramadhan, a good deed is worth 1000 and a bad deed is worth 1000 so backbiting, chatting and being nosy is worth 1000.

Looking at running water and greenery alleviates worry.

In Jannah, even men wear gold.

He who prays salat isha in congregation has taken his portion of Laylatul Qadr.

Some people look for a quickest congregational prayer and sometimes this leads to incompleteness of the pillars of prayer.

The prophet ﷺ said your reward is according to your exertion.

And Allah knows best.
